What is an API and how does it benefit organisations?
Did you know one of the most underappreciated but critical technologies driving digital transformations is the API?
In this video, ECLEVA’s CEO Patrick Northcott talks about what is an API and how they benefit organisations.
Firstly, APIs or Application Programming Interface is the technology that allows data between disparate systems to be shared seamlessly. Uber is a great example of an organisation that disrupted the Taxi industry using APIs. Instead of building their own mapping, payment or communication services, Uber used the best of those programs and connected them via APIs.
Secondly, APIs significantly reduce the cost of technology development as it is cheaper to leverage systems via APIs than build new functionality within in an existing system.
Lastly, APIs reduce the number of systems employees need to interact with thereby increasing productivity. For example, to get a single view of the customer within a CRM means APIs would be connecting the organisations CRM, finance and marketing platforms.
